Cultural & Linguistic Diversity at Australian National Audit Office (ANAO)

The ANAO recognises that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to living its values of Respect, Integrity, and Excellence.

The ANAO is a culturally and linguistically diverse organisation. Around 30% of our staff were born overseas according to the 2023–24 APS Census — and 29% speak a language other than English at home, per the 2022–23 APS Census.

We’re proud of the diversity of our organisation, and our policies and amenities support this. For example, we provide all staff access to our reflection room, to allow them to practise their faith or otherwise step away into a quiet, private space. Our Diversity Contact Officers organise panels, morning teas and screenings for events like Harmony Week, to encourage the office to reflect on how we, as individuals and an organisation, can work to make our spaces welcoming for everyone.

In addition to our internal initiatives, we work closely with other supreme audit institutions around the globe. The ANAO is a member of PASAI and INTOSAI, and we work closely with the Indonesian and PNG audit offices. Our long-established international partnerships and regular international dialogues around developments in public sector auditing help foster best practice. We regularly welcome visiting delegations, support study visits and participate in staff exchanges with our international peers.
