Working Hours at DLA Piper Australia

How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
Times vary - this is natural and reflects the volume of work, and the stage in a transaction/proceeding that the work is at. Recent remote working has made work-life-balance a lot more flexible.

My current team is small but very busy. Overall, I think the company is flexible and understanding about work hours.

So far my hours have been very reasonable and my team is flexible with starting and finishing times and working from home.

Previously, there was a prolonged period of quite hard working. Things have become more balanced recently. I believe the workplace is becoming more open to flexible working (e.g. at home, start and finish times) however, it is team dependent and also workflow dependent. . Sometimes workflow prohibits flexible working.

I had expected to work long hours, and whilst that is generally the case, if I have another commitment which means I need to finish earlier - I can. Working from home is also a game changer and means you can work flexibly.

My work hours are reasonable and in line with a normal working day with time for down time at the end. My team and the firm are often flexible with hours. If a member of the team has an appointment or needs to be away for an hour or two, no one minds. Further, there is a firmwide policy allowing for an employee to discuss how best they can work with their supervisor.

Quite flexible as long as urgent work is done.

The firm is pretty flexible when it comes to hours, especially since the pandemic. We now have a WorkSmart policy which allows everyone in the firm to be able to work both a combination of days in the office and at home. I think the number of hours you are working can differ depending on the day or week, what matters the team is working on and what urgently needs to get done.

The time spent in the company largely depends on which team you are in. In my experience, my working hours have been great, with my days ending at about 6:30 most days. The company is very flexible, allowing staff to work from home a few days per week if they wish.

I am lucky in that DLA Piper has a flexible working policy. Nevertheless, I do still work long hours from time to time.

My standard working day is 8:30am - 5:30pm. DLA Piper is relatively flexible when it comes to working hours, as long as all required work is getting done.

Work hours over the last 12 months have been particularly demanding. DLA Piper is flexible with working in the office and working from home, however, there are preferences within teams to be in the office more frequently. Often I will log on again from home in the evening because I prefer not to be in the office late at night. Many of my colleagues do the same if we have to work.
